confessions...

if you ask my husband, he'll emphatically proclaim "kim hates westerns".  and that would be about 99.99% accurate.  but, i must admit, during my late-night channel surfing sessions i have found myself pausing on (and subsequently enjoying) the following movies:

the magnificent seven
a fist full of dollars
the good, the bad and the ugly
westworld (yeah, yeah i know "technically" it is sci-fi)

but i still can't get into the unforgiven.

shhhh!  whatever you do, don't tell orhan.  he'll never let me live this down.  he already makes me watch shalako everytime it's on.

the tao of bumper stickers...

recent kids' reads...

kid, interrupted (part deux)

recent reads...

political musings for the politically unamused.

pardon the interruption...

if you've noticed a lapse in my posting it's because i've been desperately trying to get past the "medium" level of guitar hero.  just ask my kids how it's going, they haven't eaten in weeks.

random quote...

"gentlemen, you can't fight in here! this is the war room!"

-president merkin muffley in dr. strangelove or: how i learned to stop worrying and love the bomb

"i can no longer sit back and allow communist infiltration, communist indoctrination, communist subversion, and the international communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids."

-general jack d. ripper in dr. strangelove or: how i learned to stop worrying and love the bomb

"survival kit contents check. in them you'll find: one .45 caliber automatic; two boxes of ammunition; four days concentrated emergency rations; one drug issue containing: antibiotics, morphine, vitamin pills, pep pills, sleeping pills, tranquilizer pills; one miniature combination russian phrase book and bible; one hundred dollars in rubles; one hundred dollars in gold; nine packs of chewing gum; one issue of prophylactics; three lipsticks; three pair a nylon stockings. shoot, a fellah could have a pretty good weekend in vegas with all that stuff."

wit and wisdom of youth...

our clever girl figured out, on her own, how to open the photo booth program on our iMac, take pictures and play with the special effects. everyday i find new mugs of her and her brother on our computer.

happy new year!

okay.  it is that time of the year, when we all make promises to ourselves that we never intend to keep.  year after year i fall victim to the broken new year's resolution.  i never seem to take into account three crucial factors when i make them:

1.  i always underestimate my total lack of willpower

2.  i never aim low enough

3. i don't allow myself enough "outs" (to borrow a phrase from my excessive texas hold 'em tournament watching)

to avoid the pitfalls of years past, i have decided to make five resolutions this year in hopes that i will be able to achieve a portion of one.  this year i will (maybe):

1.  do more fun things with the kids in order to provide more blog fodder

2.  double my Bosnian vocabulary from 5 words to 10 words

3.  learn to live simpler and greener

4.  increase my cooking quality and quantity.  however, it may conflict with my desire to:

5.  lose weight - yeah, cliche, i know.  but you can't beat the classics

wish me luck in my endeavors.

a special message for you...

apparently my "green" effort to post my holiday greeting here, had some snags.  i didn't realize how many people still lived in the dark ages of dial up.  this is for everyone, especially my low bandwidth friends and family:

it is Christmas time again.  a time of year i generally use to reach out to those who have touched my life and tell them how much they mean to me.  and you do mean a lot.  more than you can ever imagine.

those who know me well, know that i am NOT a person who takes oneself too seriously.  i have always felt that laughter is the best medicine.  this year it has been particularly hard to laugh, i think we all can agree on that.  but we all do our best.  and that is all that is expected.

people often ask me how i reconcile this time of year,  as i have a huge variety of differing cultures and creeds as friends and family. well know this.  no matter how you choose to celebrate this time of year,  you are all loved.  and i feel my life is richer because i know you.

i wish everyone all the peace and happiness you all truly deserve.

we love you!
